August, 2019

August is Happiness Happens Month, an entire month dedicated to celebrating what makes you happy.  We imagine that that includes enjoying the summer weather, possibly some vacation time with family and friends, and even though August is a somewhat quiet month for theatre, hopefully a night or two at a good show.

The Lion King has made a lot of people happy during its current run at the Princess of Wales Theatre, with the last week of shows (until August 4) virtually sold out.

Waitress continues at the Ed MIrvish Theatre through August 18. Inspired by the 2007 comedy-drama film of the same name, the Tony Award-nominated musical “celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie”.  Theatre-goers have enjoyed the individual-size “pie in a jar” treats offered for sale at the show.

Come From Away continues to delight crowds at the beautiful, historic Elgin Theatre. The show is currently booking through December 1st.

After receiving wonderful feedback from last season’s first relaxed performance, intended to be sensitive to and welcoming of neurodiverse audiences, including patrons on the autism spectrum, those with learning disabilities, etc., the Toronto Symphony has announced two relaxed performances for its 2019/20 season to take place at Roy Thomson Hall. Individual tickets for the TSO’s entire season of widely varied programs went on sale on August 1st.

The National Ballet of Canada won’t be returning to the Four Seasons Centre to begin its 2019/20 season until November, but if getting fit in a dynamic and creative way will add to your happiness, the company offers classes in ballet, barre, pilates and more right through August in its beautiful, professional facilities.

Whether you’re a regular theatre-goer, or new to the world of musicals, if you attend a performance at one of Toronto’s major theatres listed on our homepage, please help us build our database by submitting a review of the view from your seat.
