Who you gonna call to see Ghostbusters in Concert with you at the Sony Centre on June 8? Peter Bernstein, son of the Academy Award-winning composer and an orchestrator for the film, will join the performance as special guest conductor.
Also onstage at the Sony Centre in June, The Abba Show on June 17, Norah Jones on June 26, and a variety of other acts.
The George Weston Recital Hall also features a varied lineup this month including Life on Mars: A Tribute to David Bowie, which covers the Bowie back-catalogue from Space Oddity to Let’s Dance and everything in between, on June 6; The Big Show: Magic of Dance, a theatrical dance show featuring a variety of dance styles, on June 14; and more.
The National Ballet of Canada is onstage at the Four Seasons Centre from June 1 – 8 with Physical Thinking, a program of three short ballets by choreographer William Forsythe. Then the NBC concludes its season with The Merry Widow, a ballet based on the operetta of the same name, at which outstanding Principal Dancer Xiao Nan Yu, one of the company’s most acclaimed artists, will take her final bow after 22 years with the company. At Roy Thomson Hall, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s June schedule includes Brahms Symphony 4; Modern Broadway, featuring stage stars Betsy Wolfe and Jeremy Jordan; Carmina Burana, a “choral extravaganza” with a cast of soloists, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and the Toronto Children’s Chorus; and then concludes its 2018/19 season with The Firebird. Each performance of The Firebird will feature an onstage conversation with incoming Music Director Gustavo Gimenco, Concertmaster Jonathan Crow, and TSO Chief Executive Officer Matthew Loden after the show.
Dear Evan Hansen is now selling tickets through July 21, not September 29 as previously announced, and will complete its run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre on that date. A limited number of rush tickets, both student and general, are available at 9 a.m. on each performance day. The tickets are available for purchase online only for pick-up at the box office.
The Lion King returns this month to dazzle audiences young and old with its stunning visuals and beloved music by Elton John and Tim Rice. It originally premiered in Toronto in the spring of 2000 and was seen by 2.9 million people in the almost four years it ran at the Princess of Wales Theatre. It returns to the same theatre this summer from June 13 through August 4.
The Ed Mirvish Theatre has the ever-popular Book of Mormon onstage from June 11 – 23.
And Come From Away continues to welcome enthusiastic crowds at the Elgin Theatre. It’s currently selling tickets through September 29.

Congratulations to The Musical Stage Company for winning three Dora Mavor Moore Awards for their production of Next to Normal, including Outstanding Musical Production, the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award, and Outstanding Performance in a Musical for Ma-Anne Dionisio. The cast did an excellent job with this very moving, and yet still occasionally funny, musical that centres on a mother who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effects that managing her illness has on her family. There really is no word that better describes Ma-Anne Dionisio’s performance than “outstanding”.
The National Ballet of Company performed The Merry Widow for its final production of the 2018/19 season. We felt privileged to see principal dancer Xiao Nan Yu perform the lead role before retiring after 22 years with the company. A beautiful ballet, with lavish sets, stunning costumes, and many opportunities for featured dancers to display both their dancing and acting abilities made this an outstanding evening of dance. We will miss Nan!
We so enjoyed the TSO’s Modern Broadway show this month. Betsy Wolfe was lovely, but Jeremy Jordan – WOW. He is a wonderfully talented tenor, not to mention incredibly charming. We could actually feel the anticipation in our section of Roy Thomson Hall as he was being introduced, when female members of the audience, young and older, exchanged excited glances and leaned forward in anticipation of his arrival. They were not disappointed.
